The UK is scheduled to upgrade its TV broadcasting system by ceasing broadcasting of analogue TV and switching over to digital region by region over the coming years start from Whitehaven of Cumbia already. The scheduled upgrading is called Digital TV Switchover and Freeview TV will be broadcasting in full power by digital wave after the switchover is completed in your region, with increased channels and significantly higher reception capability.
The switchover will enable people to watch all Freeview TV channels with a rooftop aerial in most regions of the UK and meanwhile enable a Portable Digital TV or a Computer Freeview TV Receiver to receive the most of Freeview channels almost everywhere with a good quality portable antenna designed for digital TV and even with a telescopic TV antenna.
The Switchover is a complicated process, and needs to be done in stages so that everyone in the country will be ready for it. The Border TV regions were chosen to go first as it has very little signal interference with other countries, such as France, who are also switching over to digital.
The Border has been selected as the first region for the switchover programme in the UK and has started from Whitehaven of Cumbia already. The last analogue TV channels were switched off on 14th November 2007 in Whitehaven and replaced with digital services. The rest of the UK regions will follow as the switchover progresses and the programme will be complete in 2012.
You can check the time when the switchover will take place in your region at Digital UK website by typing in the postcode where you live.
